Training Contracts

Applications for positions to start in 2011 will begin in April 2010, please visit the website again soon.

We detail below some of the criteria which we consider when assessing applicants. We hope these will be of some assistance to applicants who want to join our successful legal practice.

What do we find attractive?

First of all we need to like you and feel that you'll fit into our organisation here at Ralli. We expect a strong academic background. Successful candidates will normally have a degree at 2.1 or above and a commendation or better on LPC. However, our written criteria allow us to consider candidates without a 2.1 who have other skills that are important to our business. In addition, we expect initiative, maturity, responsibility, enthusiasm and good interpersonal skills. We welcome applications from those who also have other skills which complement their legal expertise.

We are pleased to have accepted the Law Society's Voluntary Code. Please visit the Law Society's website to review the Code and how it affects our training programme.

We invite applications from current students in tertiary education. We also would be pleased to hear from applicants who have had other permanent jobs before deciding to become solicitors. Mature entrants to the profession bring significant life and business skills, which we and you can build upon.

How many Trainee Solicitors doe we engage each year?

Generally, we engage two Trainee Solicitors each year. Applications are expected 1 or 2 years in advance of the commencement date.

We offer a starting salary in line with the Law Society minimum.

Training and Development

Each Trainee Solicitor will undertake four seats of six months. The seats will be determined when training contracts are agreed. Objectives and a training plan are agreed at the beginning of each seat. At the end of each seat the trainee is appraised against these criteria to fix new objectives. Work will involve court attendance, client work, drafting, research, client meetings and conferences with counsel.

We spend a great deal of time recruiting only the best candidates in order to maintain very high standards of work. We value our trainees and tutor them to accept responsibility, and give our clients measured and assertive advice. We believe that this investment in time and commitment will produce effective solicitors, and eventual partners, within our firm.
