Attendance at Police Stations
We know that being investigated and questioned by the police as a suspect is a worrying experience. You may have been subject to a police search whilst on foot or in your vehicle, or had your house searched by police acting under warrant, and seek advice as to your rights. You may be concerned that the police have circulated your name as wanted for questioning, or having been previously interviewed without legal representation and bailed by the police, you may now want legal assistance from a criminal defence solicitor.
The solicitors, duty solicitors and accredited police station representatives in our criminal department will offer you the best advice on how to deal with police interviews conducted under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, whether you have been formally arrested or asked to attend as a volunteer.
Our representatives will guide you through the procedures at the police station and advise you of your rights, and will continue to advise you during the interview itself. Whilst the right to silence has been essentially preserved, it has also been qualified and you will require professional guidance to avoid possible adverse inferences.
We regularly advise at police stations in respect of a wide range of serious criminal allegations including murder, manslaughter, assault causing grievous bodily harm, wounding (‘section 18’ or ‘section 20’) or actual bodily harm (‘section 47’), theft, burglary, robbery, offences of money laundering under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA), firearms offences, credit card and other types of fraud, blackmail, kidnapping, offences against public justice such as perverting the course of justice or interfering with witnesses, and offences under the Terrorism Act.
