Children’s accidents - compensation claims for minors
Children are often involved in accidents. These may be road traffic accidents, accidents in the park or playground to name just a few. The accidents can result in the child having a few bumps and scrapes or it can be more serious leading to long term consequences for the child and their family.
If your child has been injured, at Ralli, we can help to claim compensation both for your child and, in certain circumstances, for the effect the accident has had on you and the rest of your family.
The law considers that anyone under the age of 18 is a child. All children must have an adult to represent them and give instructions to us as solicitors. This adult is called a Litigation Friend and will normally be the child's parent or guardian.
At Ralli, we settle many cases for children without needing a trial. If this happens, in order to ensure the amount of compensation is fair and in your child's best interests, the law requires the court to approve the settlement. We will arrange a short court hearing. The Litigation Friend and the child will need to attend the hearing. At Ralli, we will ensure that you and your child are properly represented at this hearing.
In all cases, if your child is successful in obtaining compensation, the money is invested with the court until your child is 18 years old.
