My Job Title: Trainee Solicitor

Admitted as a solicitor: September 2010

What do I do at work?
I recently started my training contract and am currently enjoying my seat in the Regulatory Corporate and Serious Crime department. I shall be assisting the senior partner and other fee earners within the department. I am looking forward to attending the Magistrates and Crown Courts and police stations as well as working on files involving motoring offences, trading standards, HMRC and SFO prosecutions.
Seats in Corporate, Business & Property Litigation and finally Property are to follow!
What have I done?
Having been a student for most of my life, I really haven't got up to that much! I worked part-time for the NHS for eight years during my student years before I joined Ralli.
At Ralli, I worked as a paralegal in the Personal Injury department for just over a year where I gained exposure to a wide variety of cases including those involving the CICA and MIB as well as working on some interesting cases where settlement figures varied from a few hundred thousand to a few million.
I have also worked on various other things within Ralli, including dealing with new matters and enquiries coming in from new clients and other organisations such as the MoD. Furthermore, I created eleven pages for the Personal Injury section of the Ralli website which still stand to this day! I have also helped to report cases on Lawtel as well as on the Ralli website.
What do I like?
Well, where do I start? I am a self-confessed foodie; I love food…good food, although my friends would say any food! I enjoy keeping fit by trying to go to the gym four times a week as well as playing football two times a week. When I am not doing either of those, I can be found cycling somewhere around the outskirts of Bolton!
I also enjoy cooking; I pride myself on my ability to cook anything from scratch with a wee bit of improvisation…a skill mastered as a student. I enjoy my teas, as evidenced in my drawer where you will find most varieties of teas from an Earl Gray or a Darjeeling to a smoky Lapsang Souchong!
I am a proud Manchester United supporter; I don't envy City fans at all with their new found wealth, finally they might have something cheer about! I stress the word might. Apart from football, I enjoy watching nearly every other sport there is, from athletics or boxing to motor racing. I also enjoy going to the cinemas when I am not out eating! Other interests include anything to do with cars, planes, comedy, engineering, technology, watches and music. I enjoy good company and socialising/having a laugh.
Memberships:
Manchester Trainee Solicitors' Group & FELT (fun social events!), The Law Society Junior Lawyers Division, The Only Fools and Horses Appreciation Society (Luvly Jubbly!), Daytona Go-Karting Club Manchester, MMU Mentor-Match and seeing as I'm allowed to have it in this list…the gym!
