Make a Will Week heads for second successful year

Make a Will Week heads for second successful year
Mon 15th Aug 11 - 10:22

The Christie charity is calling on locals in Manchester to make a will and protect their loved ones, while also supporting world-class research at The Christie cancer centre.

The charity has launched its second annual Make a Will Week and has joined forces with national law firm Ralli to offer a standard will writing and updating service free of charge, in return for a donation to the charity. Normally a will can cost between £70 and £150 so it's a great way to save money while safeguarding loved ones.

Last year, 120 people made a will and donated over £7,000 to the charity, which funds research and patient treatment at The Christie – one of Europe's leading cancer centres.

This year Make a Will Week runs from the 19th to 23rd September and with more than 65 participating solicitors from all over the North West, the charity is hoping to raise even more money to support the 44,000 cancer patients treated at The Christie every year.

John Bremend, Legacy Officer at the Christie charity, said: "Last year's Will Week was a great success so we're hoping even more people in Manchester, and indeed the North West, will take part this time and help us continue funding research and world-class treatment for our cancer patients. Please sign up, protect your family and at the same time show your support for all those affected by this disease."

Will Week highlights the importance of making or updating a will to safeguard and provide for loved ones - especially if your circumstances have changed in recent years. Your current will may not consider grandchildren, changes in marital status or property ownership. Donations through gifts in wills account for a third of The Christie charity's income each year.

Mark Briegal Partner at Ralli added: "We're thrilled to team up with The Christie to offer a free will service to locals. Making a will provides great peace of mind to know your loved ones will be protected after your death and it's also fantastic opportunity to support a truly great cause."
