Does MOS case change the approach to copyright infringement claims?

News emerged yesterday that thousands of IP addresses alleged to have been used to infringe copyright over Peer to Peer networks have been deleted by an ISP.

Reports suggest that Ministry of Sound has since suspended plans to send warning notices to more than 25,000 BT broadband customers suspected of illegal downloading.

Lohan Presencer, Chief Executive of Ministry of Sound stated that it was “very disappointing that BT decided not to preserve the identities of the illegal uploaders”, and that they are “more determined than ever to go after internet users who illegally upload our copyrighted material.”

It is reported that further applications for information from all ISPs are expected.

Wayne’s Whirl. Do football players need lawyers and not agents?

In the light of the Wayne Rooney saga this week, once again the “Agent” culture is going to be called into question, however in the light of this there are a number of “spin off” questions, do footballers really need agents?

Could a good lawyer and a good accountant not do the same job and only be paid by the hour or job? The clubs themselves have player liaison therefore why is an agent required?

In short a lawyer is a professional who is used to heavy regulation of the profession and puts his client first, he perhaps does not have the “closeness to the game” that an agent has but is that such a bad thing?

Statistics recently produced by RSM Tenon suggest that the level of Personal Insolvencies in the North West could reach the 18,000 mark this year.  This would be a 12-16% increase on last year’s figures.
